Monitors chemical, physical and biological hazards that could be present.
Investigates environmental incidents and reports incidents to appropriate regulatory agencies.
Assists with the development and delivery of environmental procedures and training.
Implements environmental compliance self-inspections and recommends appropriate action to facility management.
Recommends improvements in processes, design, procedures and operations to minimize environmental incidents.
Maintains close contact with environmental health and safety, laboratory, operations and maintenance and other company departments.
Assists in maintaining facilities’ environmental licenses, permits and authorizations.

Develops and maintains an understanding of processes within business units, and assists the business unit in complying with environmental aspects through the company’s environmental management systems.

Recommends resolutions to integrate environmental assessments of facilities into facility operations to ensure compliance with environmental requirements.
(20%) Remains current on applicable environmental laws and regulations affecting the CalEnergy operations.
Performs complex environmental work requiring considerable exercise of independent analysis and judgment in environmental services.
Coordinates environmental activities of consulting firms.
(15%) Provides technical assistance to CalEnergy managers and supervisors.
Maintains a specialized knowledge and expertise in air, water, or waste issues, and utilizes such knowledge in day-to-day functions.
(10%) Seeks and obtains required permits for operating the power operations for the CalEnergy facilities.
Evaluates regulatory impact and develops environmental programs and processes.
Provides technical input to assist in development of project planning.
(5%) Assists in development and delivery of environmental training and follows up with observations to ensure implementation and compliance with regulatory requirements.
