Candidates may be considered for any of the posted levels, depending on their level of experience and depth of expertise.
The environmental coordinator works with operating unit personnel to ensure awareness of and compliance with environmental regulations, policies and procedures and requirements of the company, assisting the operating group in the development of solutions to environmental issues.
Monitors chemical, physical and biological hazards that could be present.
Investigates environmental incidents and reports incidents to appropriate regulatory agencies.
Assists with the development and delivery of environmental procedures and training.
Implements environmental compliance self-inspections and recommends appropriate action to facility management.
Recommends improvements in processes, design, procedures and operations to minimize environmental incidents.
Maintains close contact with environmental health and safety, laboratory, operations and maintenance and other company departments.
Assists in maintaining facilities’ environmental licenses, permits and authorizations.
Primary Job Duties and Responsibilities (Essential Job Functions) Monitors Imperial Valley operations to assure compliance with federal, state and local regulations.
Develops and maintains an understanding of processes within business units, and assists the business unit in complying with environmental aspects through the company’s environmental management systems.
Identifies, develops and implements environmental initiatives for establishing external competitive advantages.
(30%) Investigates environmental issues and incidents and recommends steps to reduce the frequency of events and to resolve compliance issues.
Recommends resolutions to integrate environmental assessments of facilities into facility operations to ensure compliance with environmental requirements.
(20%) Remains current on applicable environmental laws and regulations affecting the CalEnergy operations.
Performs complex environmental work requiring considerable exercise of independent analysis and judgment in environmental services.
Coordinates environmental activities of consulting firms.
(15%) Provides technical assistance to CalEnergy managers and supervisors.
Maintains a specialized knowledge and expertise in air, water, or waste issues, and utilizes such knowledge in day-to-day functions.
(10%) Seeks and obtains required permits for operating the power operations for the CalEnergy facilities.
Evaluates regulatory impact and develops environmental programs and processes.
Provides technical input to assist in development of project planning.
(5%) Assists in development and delivery of environmental training and follows up with observations to ensure implementation and compliance with regulatory requirements.
(5%) Assists with development and implements environmental policies and procedures for the Imperial Valley operations.
(5%) Performs administrative activities necessary for the effective coordination with other department staff, including employee safety.
(5%) Performs any additional responsibilities as requested or assigned.
(5%) Qualifications Position Requirements Associate Environmental Coordinator A bachelor's degree in environmental science, engineering or other related natural resource field or equivalent and zero-two years of environmental experience.
(Typically six years of related, progressive work experience would be needed for candidates applying for this position who do not possess a bachelor's degree.
) Basic knowledge of environmental practices and standards.
Power plant knowledge and experience.
Proficiency in word processing, spreadsheet, e-mail, presentation, and database computer applications.
Basic math and writing skills, including spelling and grammar.
Ability to analyze and judge reports and records.
Effective oral and written communication skills and ability to negotiate.
Effective analytical and problem-solving skills.
Good organization skills.
Environmental Coordinator Bachelor's degree in environmental engineering, environmental sciences or the physical sciences.
(Typically six years of related, progressive work experience would be needed for candidates applying for this position who do not possess a bachelor's degree.
) A minimum of three years of experience in environmental work or equivalent, with a minimum of two years demonstrated air, water or waste/land use experience.
Requires an advanced knowledge of environmental policy, laws and regulations, with the ability to analyze and evaluate complex regulatory proposals and submit written comments.
Effective analytical, problem-solving and decision-making skills.
The demonstrated ability to supervise and work with others effectively in a diverse working environment.
Strong communication skills with the demonstrated ability to communicate complex information accurately and understandably in written and verbal form.
Ability to establish and maintain good working relationships with government agencies, trade groups and other industries.
Computer skills including competency with spreadsheets, word processors, presentation tools or a demonstrated ability to learn such skills.
Ability to prioritize and handle multiple tasks and projects concurrently.
Sr.
Environmental Coordinator Bachelor's degree in environmental engineering, environmental sciences or the physical sciences.
(Typically six years of related, progressive work experience would be needed for candidates applying for this position who do not possess a bachelor's degree.
) A minimum of three years of experience in environmental work or equivalent, with a minimum of two years demonstrated air, water or waste/land use experience Bachelor’s degree in chemistry, environmental sciences, engineering, or related field and three to five years of environmental experience or equivalent work experience.
(Typically six years of related, progressive work experience would be needed for candidates applying for this position who do not possess a bachelor’s degree.
) Five years of related experience.
Background working in all environmental media.
Demonstrated air, water, or waste/land use experience is required.
A broad diversity of environmental work experience in private industry, governmental, and consulting is preferred.
In-depth knowledge of applicable governmental laws and regulations.
Ability to review and summarize complex regulations, with the demonstrated ability to implement environmental programs.
Effective interpersonal skills and leadership abilities.
Must demonstrate the ability to coordinate projects and work with others effectively in a diverse working environment.
Excellent written and oral communications skills.
Detail oriented.
Excellent organization skills.
Ability to prioritize environmental responsibilities.
Intermediate to advanced knowledge of personal computer software applications, including spreadsheet, word processing and database experience.
Ability to read, analyze and interpret documents such as business periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures, governmental regulations.
Ability to write reports, business correspondence and procedure manuals.
Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of managers, clients, customers, the general public and employees at all levels.
Effective analytical, problem-solving and decision-making skills.
Ability to calculate figures and amounts such as proportions, percentages, area, circumference and volume.
Ability to apply concepts of basic algebra and geometry.
Capable of drawing and interpreting graphs.
