Primary Function
Under the direction of the General Counsel, serves in this position consistent with the attorney-client relationship; provides expert and technical counsel to the Board of Directors, its members, and District staff on all legal and business matters including a wide variety of public agency law, civil law, labor law, and provides legal support to the Water and Energy departments; represents the District in legal proceedings; represents the District’s interest at the local, state, and federal level; and ensures that District activities support strategic objectives and are in compliance with applicable state and federal laws and regulations.
Performs related duties as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications
Doctor of Jurisprudence (J.
D.
or LL.
B.
) from a recognized educational institution and seven years of progressively responsible experience in the practice of law, including four years of which involve the representation of clients in a governmental agency or utility.
Experience as a City Attorney, County Counsel or other governmental agency is preferred.
Licensing & Certification Requirements
An active license to practice law in the State of California is required.
A valid driver’s license issued by the State of California Department of Motor Vehicles is required.
An official current driving record (obtained within the last six months) from your local State Department of Motor Vehicles(DMV) or from the official DMV website must accompany the job application (no third-party records accepted).
