Associate Counsel

JOB Under the direction of the General Counsel, serves in this position consistent with the attorney-client relationship; provides expert and technical counsel to the Board of Directors, its members, and District staff on all legal and business matters including a wide variety of public agency law, civil law, labor law, and provides legal support to the Water and Energy departments; represents the District in legal proceedings; represents the District’s interest at the local, state, and federal level; and ensures that District activities support strategic objectives and are in compliance with applicable state and federal laws and regulations.
Performs related duties as assigned.
EXAMPLE OF DUTIES Doctor of Jurisprudence (J.
D.
or LL.
B.
) from a recognized educational institution and seven years of progressively responsible experience in the practice of law, including four years of which involve the representation of clients in a governmental agency or utility.
Experience as a City Attorney, County Counsel or other governmental agency is preferred.
