Position Summary
Function of the position: keep warehouse area in good order.
Maintain a daily schedule of assignments.
The warehouse sorter must assume total responsibility for all functions of the area and items assigned.
Education and work experience: one year experience in similar job.
Essential Functions
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
Plan daily sorting based on material supplied.
Sort books, shoes, clothing and Bric a Brac.
Daily price, tag, hand books, shoes clothing and bric-a-brac .
Train volunteers assigned to the warehouse ensuring procedure compliance.
Bag and/or box items as instructed to prepare for delivery to stores.
Ensure the area and equipment is safe and secure.
Secure the “in-kind” donations at the end of each day.
Immediately report any problems to supervisor.
Make recommendations to supervisor regarding needed changes, modifications, repairs to working area.
Probably report to immediate supervisor all accidents involving personal injury or property damage.
Observe all safety rules and regulations.
Keep area clean and free of fire hazards.
Lock doors and windows daily.
Maintain an inventory of supplies and equipment and advise supervisor when purchases of same are needed.
Sit, walk, stand, bend, squat, climb, kneel, and twist on an intermittent or continuous basis.
Grab, push, pull object such as files, file cabinet drawers, and reach overhead.
Lift and carry up to 50 pounds.
Perform all other duties as assigned.
Working Conditions
Ability to walk, stand, bend squat climb, kneel and twist on an intermittent or sometimes continuous basis.
Ability to be able to lift up to 50lbs.
Ability to grasp, push, pull objects such as file cabinet drawers and reach overhead.
Ability to operate computer, fax and telephone.
Minimum Qualifications
Ability to communicate effectively and relate positively and energetically with staff and volunteers
Ability to maintain a nonjudgmental attitude and working with staff and volunteers.
Ability to relate positively.
Ability to follow written and verbal direction in English.
Knowledge of lifting and moving procedures and equipment.
A sense of cleanliness, tidiness and neatness.
Skills, Knowledge & Abilities
Acknowledgment of religious purposes of the Salvation Army.
