REPORTS TO: Chief Nursing Officer
: The Director is responsible for the overall operation of the Cardiopulmonary Department including supervision of staff, development of policies and procedures, maintenance of equipment and records and direct patient care as required.

Assures that optimal patient care is provided by the Cardiopulmonary Department.
Responsible for proper utilization, operation and maintenance of all Department equipment.
Responsible for review and assessment of all new equipment.
Responsible for organizing, controlling and implementing the Department activities and coordinating them with other departments of the hospital.
Is familiar with all Department procedures, including performance of procedures, physiology, rationale, and possible side effects.
Keeps abreast f current cardiopulmonary care advances by communication with other cardiopulmonary processionals, reading current literature and attending outside seminars when possible.
Provides adequate staff coverage to allow performance of Department services.
Responsible for recruitment, training, supervision and evaluation of Department personnel.
Responsible for preparing reports , documents, payroll reports, statistical surveys and other data as required.
Develops new services as needed in cooperation with Administration, the Department Medical Director, and other hospital departments.
Actively participates in the inservice education program to instruct the Department staff, nursing staff, medical staff and the public on appropriate subject matter.
Develops financial budget for areas of responsibility and manages activities within the approved financial plan.
Explains variances effectively and timely, monitors expenses, including labor, with emphasis on cost containment and reduction.

Demonstrates competency in Patient Safety and Leapfrog Management Accountabilities as measured via Leapfrog program.

Effectively manages Human Resources including conflict resolution, adherence to policies and employment regulations, staff development, teambuilding, employee morale, staffing with the correct level of competent employees.

Ensures employees in areas of responsibility meet employment requirements such as timely completion of annual requirements i.
e.
re-orientation, tuberculosis screening, licensures, certifications, fit-test, etc.
Completes provisional and annual performance appraisals within established time limits.
Maintain adequate inventory levels of departmental supplies and equipment ot prevent disruption of cardiopulmonary services.
Responsible for development and implementation of the Department Quality Assurance Program.
Maintains Department records as required by Joint commission, Title 22, etc.
Performs duties and completes all projects as assigned by the Hospital Administration or Medical Director.
Performs other related duties as needed to facilitate work flow and to promote health care.

Graduate of an AMA approved school of Respiratory Therapy.
Certified Respiratory Therapy Technician or Registered Respiratory Therapist as defined by the National Board of Respiratory Care.
Current California Respiratory Care Practitioner license required.
Current American Heart Association Basic Life Support certification required.
Minimum of three years of acute care respiratory therapy experience.
Previous management experience, preferably in a hospital setting.

The Cardiopulmonary Department is operational at all times.
Ultimate responsibility for staffing the department falls on the Coordinator.
The Coordinator is generally scheduled to work Monday through Friday, five 8 hour shifts or three 12 hour shifts.
The Coordinator is also required to take call every other week.
