CBP: Emergency Medical Technician (EMT)

POSITION DESCRIPTION: Under the direction of the National Medical Director, physician supervisors, and advanced practice providers, in collaboration with the Office of the Chief Medical Officer (OCMO) of U.
S.
Customs and Border Protection (CBP), EMTs will work to assure delivery of quality healthcare services in accordance with the SOW for the medical services contract within medical units at U.
S.
Customs and Border Protection sites including, Office of Field Operations (OFO) ports of entry, U.
S.
Border Patrol Border (USBP) Stations.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: Performs under the clinical supervision and/or direction of a Physician or an APP.
Work in alongside uniformed Customs and Border Protection (CBP) Agents/Officers in secured federal facilities along the southwest border of the United States Maintains non-involvement in the security aspect of patient care and custody.
Provides first aid, emergency medical services, health examinations, or nursing services to employees.
Interacts with injury management, workers compensation, and outside compensation providers.
Gives information to employees in health education and illness prevention.
Prepares, maintains, records, accident reports, and statistical data associated with incidents, health history, and injuries occurring at worksite.
Maintains inventory of EMS equipment and first aid supplies.
Assists in performing drug and alcohol testing at worksite, overseeing other health issues such as drinking water, food preparations, and safety of living areas.
Under general supervision, performs duties by following established procedures.
Provides healthcare to employees at many locations.
Exercises judgment within generally defined procedures and current regulations in selecting methods and techniques for treatment.
Duties will be performed on-site at medical units, which may rotate within a specific region or sector.
May be required to travel on short notice.
May be required to serve at various medical units within sector/region.
Has a knowledge of techniques used in this QHSE specialization Applies knowledge to work scope.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS AND SKILLS REQUIREMENTS: Skills required for this job are typically acquired by a Certification as an Emergency Medical Technician or equivalent, with appropriate licensure, and 1+ year of experience.
Must have a minimum of one year of experience in direct patient care as a licensed/certified NR EMT or NR Paramedic in the United States.
Successful completion of an Emergency Medical Technician Basic and/ or Paramedic program located in a State, the District of Columbia, or a U.
S.
Territory.
Application of medical principles, clinical procedures, and techniques.
Alertness and skill in providing care and reacting to emergency situations.
Interpersonal skills to develop a rapport with patients and co-workers during which instructional and educational information is presented or shared.
Basic safety, infection control, quality assurance, records management, statistical information gathering, etc.
Skill in collecting a variety of laboratory samples.
Experience in detention/correctional or pediatric setting encouraged, but not required.
Bilingual in English and Spanish encouraged, but not required.
Able to walk, stand, bend, sit for extended periods, and be able to perform BLS/CPR if needed or ALS (if applicable) Able to reach to retrieve documents or supplies.
Able to carry materials and/or file boxes up to 50 pounds on an infrequent basis or assist patients into/out of a wheelchair.
Must be capable of standing on hard surfaces (cement floors) for long periods of time Must perform the duties in a stressful and often austere environment without physical limitation Must be able to obtain and maintain a NACI / Common Access Card (CAC).
LICENSURE / CERTIFICATION: Candidates must be currently licensed to practice as Nationally Registered (NR) EMT or NR Paramedic in the United States or the District of Columbia.
Licensure must be maintained current, and any required education or trainings to maintain licensure must be completed within the required timeline of the licensing authority.
A temporary license will not be accepted.
Candidate must not have had any professional licensure/certification withheld, suspended, revoked, or denied, and the candidate must not have surrendered or allowed a licensure/certification to have expired or lapsed because of an investigation or disciplinary action.
